COVID-19: Enugu Govt Closes Borders, Markets, Transport Today

The Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwanyi led Enugu State Government, has reiterated its commitment to shut all land borders leading in and out of the state, markets and inter-state transportation on Tuesday (today).

A reminder statement obtained by Igbere TV said the lockdown which takes effect from 6.00pm Nigerian time, was a preventive measure to check the spread of the dreaded Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic in the state.

 

“Closure of all Enugu State boundaries, markets and inter-state transportation takes effect from 6pm, today, Tuesday, March 31, 2020,” it said, adding, “strict compliance is highly solicited.”

The government, however, exempted “those on medical emergency services and those dealing on food items, water, pharmaceuticals, medical equipment and other basic items of daily domestic need.”

According to the statement, those exempted must comply with the standard hygiene protocol as stipulated by the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), including frequent handwashing with soap, use of hand sanitizers and observance of social distancing.

Igbere TV reports that the Coronavirus pandemic which has claimed two lives since its outbreak in Nigeria, boasts of 135 confirmed cases across the country as at 11:15am on Tuesday. Enugu has 2 cases, with the rest 133 spread across 11 states.
