Recently, a suspected case of the pandemic coronavirus (COVID-19) was discovered in Enugu state, a Southeastern state in Nigeria, as announced by the state government.
But in less than 24 hours of discovery, the suspected patient tested negative to the pandemic which is currently ravaging the world, claiming several lives at will.
The patient, a 70-year old woman, was said to have traveled to the United Kingdom where she spent five months and had just returned to the country.
A statement issued by the state’s ministry of health and made available to Igbere TV, had said the result of the investigation sent to Irua Specialist Hospital in Edo state came out negative.
The statement was further corroborated by the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, which equally announced the result of its investigation as ‘negative’.
Ordinarily, the efforts and emergency response of the medical personnel and the state government should be applauded. But reverse is the case. Instead, there has some unsavory pictures purporting to be that of the Isolation Centre where the woman was treated.
But investigations by Igbere TV has revealed that the story is not true, as those behind the false narrative are probably trying to play politics with the whole situation. If that is the case, then it is evil, barbaric and a joke taken too far.
First, it is immoral and insensitive to play politics with such a situation. Secondly, the flawed narrative by the purported daughter of the suspected patient is not only strange but a calculated attempt to undermine the efforts of the medical personnel who must have worked tirelessly to manage the situation.
Contrary to the pictures being circulated on social media as Enugu Isolation Centre, our team of reporters were on ground to obtain true images of the place, confirming that the allegations peddled against the medical personnel, the state government are untrue and should be disregarded.
A tour round the facilities at the Isolation Centre equally showed that the state government is indeed ready to curtail further outbreaks, even going by the recent release of N200 million to fight the pandemic.
It is therefore, doubtful if, indeed, it was the woman’s daughter that was behind this mischief. Otherwise, why should she display fake pictures of the Enugu Isolation Centre? What does she want to achieve by such blatant falsehood?
In conclusion, Igbere TV as a reputable and respected online medium which prides herself in standing with the people and for the truth, hereby call on the public to ignore the mischief makers as the story being painted on social media does not exist at the Enugu Isolation Centre.
