A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Dr. Chinenye Nyerere Anyim, has called on the people of Imo to rally round Governor Hope Uzodinma, following the Supreme Court judgement that sacked the administration of Emeka Ihedioha of the Peoples Democratic Party.
Describing the turn around victory of Uzodinma and the APC as “the will of God” in an exclusive interview with Igbere TV, Anyim, candidate of the APC in Abia state 2015 governorship election, said the people must learn to move on and put an end to every political division for the state to move forward.
“From the spiritual angle, the Bible says, “I will overturn…, until it is the turn of who it is…” The situation in Imo state has defiled any political permutation that we are now in a stage where we can only declare that, “it is the will of God”,” he said.
“A late Supreme Court justice once said, “it is only God that can upturn the judgement of the Supreme Court and not the Court itself or any other human being”. But it has happened. My advice is for the people to move on, rally round the new governor to move the state forward instead of an unending political division and rancor. There must be an end to every dispute.”
Anyim, the first elected Vice Chairman of the APC in Southeast, told Igbere TV that he was happy the party has regained at least one state in the zone, saying it was a good thing to have a sitting governor of the ruling party in the Southeast region.
“I am happy that the APC has at least, gotten one state in the Southeast because the situation before now was terrible. I think it is something great having a Southeastern governor in the ruling party,” Dr. Anyim added.
Apparently referring to the court ruling as legal, the APC chieftain said, “we were made to understand that the election did not produce a clear-cut winner in the first place because the person (Ihedioha) did not have the constitutional requirement of 2/3 spread across the state but was declared governor…”
On the crisis rocking the APC at the national level, Anyim said “the party leadership should be more careful and manage our victories well including the present situation rocking the APC. We must be able to have a more positive roadmap in 2023. We must all work hard to sustain the gains of this present (Buhari) administration.
“A political party that is not able to succeed itself is a failed party. We must work hard to institutionalize the gains we have recorded via the Adams Oshiomhole administration. If we fail to do that, we may start from square one again. God forbid!”
The Supreme Court had recently sacked Emeka Ihedioha of the PDP after about eight months in office, in a controversial judgement that saw Hope Uzodinma, a fourth runner-up in the election, emerge governor.
Even though the PDP and Uzodinma later challenged the ruling by seeking an upturn of the judgement at the Supreme Court, Igbere TV reports that the court maintained its earlier decision on Uzodinma and the APC.
The judgement came days after the predictions of Reverend Father Ejike Mbaka of the Adoration Ministry in Enugu state, who had predicted that Uzodinma of the APC would be returned as governor of Imo state.
