IgbereTV reports that President Muhammadu Buhari met with his counterpart from Burkina Faso, Roch Marc Christian Kabore, on Friday at the State House.
Kabore came to Nigeria the Chairman of the ECOWAS Committee mandated to engage with the various stakeholders on the issue of the partial closure of Nigeria’s land borders.
The report revealed that President Buhari assured him that Nigeria is very much mindful of the concerns of neighbouring countries and ECOWAS on the issue, and that an early and enduring solution will be provided soon.
President Buhari said, “I am awaiting the report of Tripartite Committee, and will work as fast as I can as soon as I receive the report.”
He added that the major problem necessitating the partial border closure has been security, the inflow of weapons, ammunition, drugs and so on.
“We are of course mindful of the need to strike the right balance between these security concerns and the legitimate movement of goods,” he said.
Buhari, however, appealed for patience from neighbouring countries and the wider region as he awaits the Tripartite Committee Report.
