The Lagos State Government led by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu is not going back on it ban on motorcycles and tricycles popularly referred to as Okada and Keke, according to IgbereTV report.
Recall that the Lagos State Govertment placed a ban on Okada and Keke on the 1st of February, 2020, the Deputy Governor of the state, Dr Obafemi Hamzat in a latest statement on a programme Politics Today on Channels TV stated that the ban is about safety and security.
He declared that the state government is not after any group.
“The truth of the matter is that it is a law that has been in existence since 2012. It was revised by the past administration in 2018. So, it is a law that has been there for like nine, 10 years.
“We all know that it was not implemented; so what we are doing is to implement the law. It’s not that we just woke up and banned them. It is about the security of lives,” he said.
Hamzat disclosed that since the ban on Okada there have been a reduction in the rate of accidents and also crimes in the state.
