Resign to help Wike ‘think well’ – Ex Lawmaker, Kwanee advises appointees

Former Deputy Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Leyii Kwanee has called on appointees of Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike to resign so as to allow the Governor take more prudent decisions.

Kwanee was speaking in reaction to the release of one million dollars by the State government for twenty eight students studying overseas after the resignation of the Chief Executive Officer of Rivers State Sustainable Development Agency, RSSDA, Larry Pepple.

Managing Director/CEO of RSSDA, Larry People resigned his appointment because of what he described as the lack of vision of Governor Wike for the intervention agency set in 2008.

However, the ex-lawmaker, Kwanee queried the Governor for waiting to be pressurized before taking “easy decisions”.

Kwanee who represented Khana Constituency two in the 7th state Assembly appealed to the Governor to consider the plight of the remaning Rivers’ students abroad.

He said, “We have to be grateful to Larry Pepe for making the great sacrifice of resigning so that the Governor can come to his senses.

“If Larry hadn’t resigned, maybe reasoning wouldn’t have prevailed. But what baffles me is why should Governor Wike wait to be pushed to the wall before he takes a salient decision that affects our young ones.

“Though we are grateful for his release of $1m for only 28 students, what then happens to the remaining 272 that are scattered in different institutions overseas.

“Maybe more Commissioners or Heads of Agencies should begin to resign so that the Governor can come to his senses.

“If the reports we are hearing that some of the students have become beggars abroad, then it will be wicked for the Governor to ignore our children in such unwarranted circumstance.”
