BREAKING!! Senators Call for Buhari's Immediate Resignation

The call on President Muhammadu Buhari to resign immediately by some well-meaning Nigerian lawmakers based on his inability to curtail the alarming security challenges in the country caused a stir on the floor of the red chamber on Wednesday, Igbere TV reports.

One of the lawmakers, the Senate Minority Leader, Enyinnaya Abaribe, who spoke first at the Senate during a discourse on a motion of national security challenges and restructuring the country’s security system, criticised the president for saying he was surprised at the rising insecurity in the country.

Recall that, Buhari had on Tuesday said that he was surprised about the growing insecurity but that his administration would go ‘harder’ on bandits.

Airing his opinion, Abaribe said; “If you want to treat an issue, you go to the head. We did not appoint the IG or the security chiefs. We will go to the president and ask him to resign.”

“Nigerians voted APC because they promised to tackle insecurity but they have failed,” Abaribe, a member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), added.

When the uproar generated by Abaribe subsided, Senator Abdullahi Adamu said Abaribe’s submissions were unnecessary.

The President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, also appealed to his colleagues to approach the issue with caution.

However, another PDP flag bearer (name withheld) in the Senate, in a short interview with Igbere TV ruled in favour of the Abaribe’s motion despite opposing voices from a section of the lawmakers who felt it was needless asking Buhari to resign.

Supporting Abaribe’s motion, the lawmaker who spoke exclusively with Igbere TV on condition of anonymity said; “it is unfortunate that the security situation in the country is worsening by the day in spite of several interventions by the National Assembly.”

He urged President Buhari to proffer solutions to the problem of insecurity in the or resign.

“I think if a president failed to find solutions to problems of insecurity in his country, such president should consider resignation as he have failed his people,” he said.
