Biafra Nations Youth League, BNYL, has revealed ‘real reason’ behind the ceding of Bakassi Peninsula to Cameroon.
Deputy Leader of BNYL and Head of Operations of the online Biafra Broadcasting Service, Ebuta Ogar Takon, blamed General Yakubu Gowon for the loss.
“Gowon and Adhijo of Cameroon first went into agreement to see the defeat of Biafra from that angle”, Takon, an Ejagham native of Cross River State, said.
“Obasanjo came in and facilitated the agreement in his tenure, Jonathan came in and did not have a say on the issue”, he added.
Takon noted that during the period, former British Southern Cameroons were asked to vote whether to remain in Nigeria or Cameroon.
“While they voted to leave Nigeria, Bakassi voted to remain with her kits and kin, the Efiks.
“So it is a case of annexation caused by underground agreement, many Bakassi people are ignorant of the role Gowon played at first until we told them, the evidence are there, that was why during the war Cameroon sided him”.
He stressed that the ‘Green Tree’ agreement that finally ceded the region to Cameroon during Obasanjo regime was just formality, as it has never been obeyed.
