Sowore, Dasuki: Group Warns Buhari To Shy Away From Arbitrary Exercise Of Power

IgbereTV reports that a Pan-Yoruba organisation, the National Association of Yoruba Descendants in North America, has urged the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari to shy away from arbitrary exercise of power as well as its selective obedience to law.

The organisation also known as Egbe Omo Yoruba of North America, stated this while reacting to Tuesday’s directive ordering the release of former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki and Convener of #RevolutionNow movement, Omoyele Sowore, which it described as a right step in the right direction.

The organisation had on Monday, December 16, issued a statement, demanding the immediate release of Sowore, Dasuki and others who have been granted bail by the court but still being held by the government.

Less than 10 days after the statement from the group, the federal government through the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami ordered the release of the duo.

In a statement signed by its National President, Durojaye Odimayo Akindutire, the organisation said, “though happy at this change of heart on the part of the Federal government of Nigeria, this is a token of what we are asking for.

“This administration still has more to do in adhering to the tenets of true democracy and the rule of law. It is also instructive to know that Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky mentioned in our previous release is yet to be accommodated under this order of the Federal government.”

It also advised the Buhari-led government to shy away from choosing which lawful order of the court to obey and ones to disobey, noting that, “When our laws don’t apply equally to all citizens, including elected and unelected officials, we are as nation are teetering on the brink of collapse.
