A Federal High Court in Lagos has rejected an application for post-conviction bail by the Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, who is serving 12-year imprisonment for alleged N7.65billion fraud.
Igbere TV reports that Justice Mohammad Liman ordered Kalu to remain in correctional services custody until his appeal is heard.
Recall that on December 17, Kalu applied for bail on the grounds of Ill health and that he needs to represent his constituency at the Senate, where he is Chief Whip.
Kalu, through his lawyer, Lateef Fagbemi, also said that his health challenges cannot be managed by the medical facilities in the Custodial Centre in Ikoyi, Lagos.
He had also argued that the offences for which he was convicted and jailed were bailable.
Kalu had, therefore, prayed the court to free him, while he challenges his conviction by Justice Muhammed Idris at the Court of Appeal.
