"Pro-Biafrans disgraced not only Okorocha but Igbo leaders"

“Pro-Biafrans disgraced not only Okorocha but Igbo leaders”

The attempt by members of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), to disrupt Governor Rochas Okorocha’s speech at the Chatham House, London, is “most unfortunate and grossly embarrassing.”

This is according to the Imo state government in a response to the drama that unfolded on March 9, at world famous Chatham House, where Governor Okorocha was invited to deliver a speech. In a press statement signed by Sam Onwuemeodo, Governor Okorocha’s chief press secretary (CPS), the government said it was worrisome that members of IPOB that have always given the impression that they are fighting for the course of Igbo, would decide to storm the Chatham House to create a scene at an event the governor honoured to deliver a speech on the way forward for our society, Vanguard reports.  IMSG says Pro-Biafrans’s attempt to disgrace Gov Okorocha at the Chatham House, London, is most unfortunate and grossly embarrassing.

He said: “Indeed, if IPOB apostles would embarrass an Igbo leader of Governor Okorocha’s status in London, then, their claim that they are fighting or agitating in the interest of Ndigbo should be taken with a pinch of salt by those who had hitherto, believed them. “The IPOB action at Chatham House was not only embarrassing to Governor Okorocha as an Igbo leader, but also to Ndigbo in general both at home and in diaspora and indeed to all men and women of goodwill.” Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo state had arrived Chatham House March 9 to give a speech but he was greatly embarrassed by pro-Biafrans.

Okorocha’s free education programme from primary to University level and his concerted effort at Human Capital Development Initiatives in Imo state, had presented the interest of the London based Chatham House to invite him to talk on the referenced topic. However, when the governor was delivering his speech, an IPOB member with the Biafran flag, came to the podium agitating that no one is doing anything about the plight of Biafrans in Nigeria. He was immediately rushed by other participants at the event as they clashed with him while trying to push him out of the hall.
