Hon. Benjamin Kalu, member representing Bende federal constituency has expressed gratitude to God for granting him victory at the Appeal Court where his election was being challenged by Peoples Democratic Party’s candidate, Chima Anyaso.
He noted that every average Bende man wants him to be a House of Representatives member and assured that he will do more for them.
He also said because of the faith the people of his constituency have in him, they would have been depressed if his election was invalidated.
Speaking with Igbere TV in Abuja shortly after the court pronouncement on Monday, the federal lawmaker said he is happy, not because he won but because God has proven he is God.
“The wish of my Bende people is beyond APC and PDP and every other political party. Every average Bende Bende man wants me to be in this position. You will imagine how depressed they would have been today if I had lost. “When I think about the majority of the people that voted for me, I go to God and say please, do not allow their pain to be in vain. If I remember the amount of people praying for me, when people were running to the native doctors, I was running to the ministers of God to pray” he said.
He emphasized that the victory is not for him but the entire people of Bende federal constituency, saying all those who do not have a voice can now find a voice in him.
While stating that the litigation distraction is over, he vowed never to disappoint all those who have confidence in him and voted for him.
“If I was able to push 28 Bills while this distraction was on, if I was able to move 4 motions within 3 months, I can assure you that with your prayers, support and belief in me, I will bring more home. I will do more for the Federal Republic of Nigeria, I will do more for Abia State government” he added.
Benjamin Kalu also expressed readiness to give Ikpeazu-led administration in Abia and other elected officials of the state at various levels the needed support to make the state better.
He said he is accessible and open to all irrespective of their political parties provided they are from Bende federal constituency.
While appealing for their support in tackling the challenges confronting the people, he also appealed to the people of Bende to be patient, saying Rome was not built in a day, underlining that he is working. He expressed regret that despite all appeal to make his opponent, Chima Anyaso to shield his interest to challenge his victory in court, Anyaso still went ahead to challenge it, describing his victory as an act of God.
