BREAKING: Court Grants Sowore Bail

Battle For Sowore’s Soul: DSS, Lawyers Clash In Court

The Federal High Court, Abuja, has dismissed the application of the Department of State Services (DSS) to further detain Omoyele Sowore for another twenty days.

The Federal High Court struck out the application at the hearing on Tuesday, Sept. 24, after it was withdrawn by the counsel to the DSS.

Femi Falana, counsel to Sowore, consequently prayed the court to order the DSS to immediately release his client as the initial order to detain him for 45-day had expired.

But the DSS counsel challenged the oral application on the grounds that the agency had filed a formal suit against Sowore for treasonable felony, which he said was a capital offence.

Falana, in his argument, said his applicant was in line with section 35 of the 1999 Constitution which stipulates that “a citizen of Nigeria can only be detained in accordance with the orders of a court.”

After much heated debates, the Court finally granted Sowore bail and ordered him to submit his International passport.

With the latest development, Sowore is to appear in Court from home for subsequent hearings, once he perfects his bail conditions.
