The achievement of Enugu State Government in the area of health has been widely applauded by many people of the state, both home and abroad.
Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State paid N100m counterpart fund for Enugu State to access free healthcare services, under the Universal Health Coverage
He upgraded and inaugurated Poly, Udi General Hospital to provide qualitative secondary healthcare delivery for the urban and rural population of the state. The Poly General Hospital formerly known as Poly Clinic Asata, is the second busiest hospital, after Enugu State University Teaching Hospital, Parklane, Enugu. Also, Udi General Hospital is the 4th busiest public secondary healthcare facility in the state and the only public secondary healthcare facility within the Udi/ Ezeagu Federal Constituency of the state.
Governor Ugwuanyi also approved for the Esut Teaching Hospital Parklane to absorb 125 interns of different relevant fields of study and 102 Resident Doctors I’m addition to continuous recruitment of Consultants in different medical fields, accreditation related investments and provision of medical equipment.
Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi’s administration has put in place 3 brand new Primary Healthcare Centres at Abakpa, Oji and Obolo Afor which will soon be inaugurated. There are also 43 Cottage Hospitals and about 390 public Primary Healthcare facilities that provide related medical services.
On the other hand, the wife of the Governor, Mrs Monica Ugwuanyi, recently embarked on a campaign to deworm children who are under the age of five in the state. This is to get them ready for the new academic session. The deworming exercise is done twice in a year. The program is now ongoing.
Recently, last week Thursday, Governor Ugwuanyi was honoured with the award of good governance in the health sector by the College of Medicine, University of Nigeria Nsukka, Ituku Ozalla, Enugu Campus. He was given the award during the 1st Distinguished Alumni Lecture and Awards Day of the college. While presenting the award to him, the Provost of the College, Prof. Uchenna Nwagha, disclosed that the award was conferred on Governor Ugwuanyi for providing the enabling peaceful environment and good policies on Health and Medical Education. He also went on to say that the ongoing rehabilitation of the old UNTH road by Governor Ugwuanyi’s administration as well as assistance in the establishment of the research and diagnostic centre also made the college decide to honour the Governor.
With these achievements, it can be seen that Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi is setting a good example for other Governors to follow and at the same time leaving a legacy for his successors to build upon.
