Former Governor of Ekiti State, Mr Peter Ayodele Fayose, on Tuesday, congratulated Governor Fayemi Kayode, as he marks one year in office, Igbere TV reports.
In a post sighted by Igbere TV on his verified Twitter handle, Fayose wrote; “YE Kayode Fayemi, I wish you well as you celebrate your one year anniversary in office hopefully with ‘visible projects’ that will speak for you tomorrow. Above all YE, I am not eligible to contest Ekiti Guber, so let’s have some peace.”
This is not the first time the former governor will openly congratulate his successor. Fayose had in May, 2019, congratulated Fayemi on his election as Chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum (NGF).
Fayose’s favoured candidate in the last governorship election in the State, Professor Kolapo Olusola-Eleka lost the election to Fayemi of the All Progressives Congress.
The Ekiti State Election Petitions Tribunal also dismissed a petition by the PDP and its candidate, challenging the outcome of the July 2018 governorship election.
Igbere TV reports that Fayemi, who was sworn in October 16, 2018, resigned as President Buhari’s Solid Minerals Minister, to contest the governorship election in his home State.
He will serve for only four years, having been governor of the state between 2010 and 2014 under the platform of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN).
