MANCHESTER DERBY!

By Emmanuel Ebimoh

It’s a rivalry borne out of the passion to win every game, score the best goals, and of course, retain the bragging rights in the city. It’s arguably the fiercest of them all, with every moment to relish for a lifetime. It’s a derby for the kings of Manchester – for the bold and fearless in England. It’s the Manchester derby!

The tradition of big football games between neighbouring clubs in the same city has been one of intrigue and sheer excitement. All around the world, the spark involved in such games has always illuminated the hearts of fans and created lasting memories for a long time. One of such games has been the derby clash between two bitter rivals – Manchester United and Manchester City.

This weekend, the world of football is set to witness probably the most expensive accumulation of players on a football pitch battling for pride and glory. Manchester United, with their rather fearless coach, Jose Mourinho will have to be in their best form when they take on the rejuvenated Manchester City side, headed by their highly animated coach, Pep Guardiola. Over the years, this fixture has seen some really intriguing goals and unexpected results. One very notable result was the 6-1 smashing of Manchester United by their city rivals in 2011.

Manchester City have the chance to open up an 11-point lead over their nearest rivals, Manchester United at the top of the table with a record equaling 14th consecutive league win in a game that will could go a long way towards shaping the title race. Although Jose Mourinho’s side have been in good form this season, having won 11 games and lost just two, they have to stand on their toes for 90 minutes to stop the raging City side who have only conceded 10 goals in 15 league matches so far this season.

No doubt it’ll be a mouth-watering encounter at Old Trafford this Sunday as two English football giants lock horns on the battlefield to contest for pride of the city. Who will take the day?
