UN withdraws 108 Nigerian peace-keeping officers in Liberia

The last batch of 108 Nigerian police officers has been withdrawn from the UN Mission in Liberia (UNMIL) after five years of service.

UNMIL said the remaining 108 Nigerian FPU officers, the last UNMIL uniformed contingent remaining in Liberia, withdrew as part of the UN mission’s termination.

The batch of 200 Nigerian peacekeepers withdrew from Liberia in February as part of the termination of the mission’s mandate, scheduled on March 30, the mission said.

“The Nigerian contingent has been deployed in Liberia since UNMIL was first established in 2003,” the mission said in a statement .

“The United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL) has been a steadfast partner to Liberia for the last 15 years.

“It has supported security and security sector reform, rule of law, efforts to disarm, human rights and sustainable peace. The Mission will complete its mandate on 30 March 2018.

“UNMIL was established in September 2003 with 16,475

uniformed personnel to monitor a ceasefire agreement in Liberia, following the conclusion of the Second Liberian civil war.”

An official farewell ceremony was held in February in honour of the last departing 689 uniformed personnel – 404 military and 285 police personnel – who had served with the mission.

This symbolised the end of UNMIL’s military and police operations in Liberia, more than 14 years after UNMIL was deployed in compliance with Security Council resolution 1509 (2003).

Salihu Uba was force commander and head of UNMIL’s military component of men and women from various countries, including Nigeria, Pakistan and Ukraine.

Uba was commander of the training and doctrine command of the Nigerian Army before his appointment as the Force Commander for UNMIL by Ban Ki-moon, former UN secretary-general, on January 9, 2015.

Liberian President George Weah commended UNMIL for its longstanding support to peace and stability, saying the Liberian people will forever remain grateful to them for their bravery and service.

“Thank you for your hard work and sacrifice you have made over the years to keep the peace and stability of our beloved mama Liberia. As you leave us now, we will forever remember you,” Weah said.

Just In!! Plans By Justice Binta And FG To Postpone Biafra Detainees Case Hearing Uncovered

Information reaching the air now has it that Justice Binta Nyako has concluded plans with Nigerian government to postpone the court case between Nigerian government and Biafrans still held illicitly in Kuje prison, thereby subjecting and exposing these innocent Biafrans to inhuman and degrading treatment. Let it be known that this case has been in court close to 3 years now and counting as a result of unwarranted adjournment so as to be able to scout for evidence against these Biafrans and to jail them unjustly.

We must resist this unjust move against Benjamin Mmadubugwu, David Nwawusi, Bright Chimezie Ishinwa, and Chidiebere Onwudiwe. This inhuman treatment against these Biafrans is disheartening and must be put to a halt. The judiciary they say, is the last hope of the common man, but here in Nigeria, the case is different. Judiciary is now a tool used by Nigerian government to punish those that have different believe and ideology as well as those they see as opposition to their government and actions.

Self determination is enshrined in the United Nations Charter of right of indigenous people to self emancipation which is domesticated by Nigerian government as a member nation. Therefore, it is within our legitimate right to agitate for our freedom using the same law as provided by United Nations which Nigeria is signatory to.

I hereby call on people of good conscience and lovers of freedom, equity and justice and indeed all Biafrans around the world to stand up and resist this abortion of justice and the continued illegal detention of these our brothers for close to 3 years now. Either they release our brothers tomorrow unconditionally or 10 million Biafrans will hit the street both in Biafraland and in diaspora to demand for their release. We have truly endured such an injustice, and it’s enough. We shall not allow this to continue unchallenged. I am calling on Biafrans worldwide to get ready because we must compel Nigerian government to free our brothers, Benjamin Madubugwu, David Nwawusi, Bright Chimezie Ishinwa and Chidiebere Onwudiwe. The incessant adjournment of this court case must be put to a stop .

Herdsmen killings: PDP reveals those allegedly responsible for massacre of 50 people in Kogi

The Peoples Democratic Party has said President Muhammadu Buhari-led All Progressives Congress, APC, and Kogi State Government under the leadership of Yahaya Bello should be held responsible for the killings of over 50 people in Kogi state.

PDP said Buhari-led Federal Government and the Kogi government have failed to take decisive steps in dealing with those behind the crisis, hence they should be held responsible for the killings.

In a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, the former ruling party said it was pertinent to note that the attack followed the alleged importation of military gadgets by those allegedly linked to the Kogi State Government.

The statement reads, “From every indication, there is no how one can exonerate the APC and its administration at the federal and Kogi State levels from this evil against the people.

“We invite Nigerians and the international community to note that the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration did not take any definite steps to ensure adequate security in the ravaged communities, despite a series of security threats, the latest being the illegal smuggling of military gadgets into the state.

“In spite of the allegations by the people of Kogi State that the military equipment was being delivered to suspected marauders, the Buhari-led Federal Government did not take decisive steps to arrest and investigate those fingered in the illegal trafficking, particularly the already indicted aides of Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello.

“Now that the deed has been done, all we get are apathetic statements and crocodile tears from the Federal Government and the Kogi State Government, while those behind the act are still walking free and probably targeting their next victims.”

Fatima Dangote And Jamil Abubakar Wedding Dinner In Abuja (Photos)

Billionaire daughter, Fatima Dangote and her pilot husband, Jamil Abubakar have moved on from their wedding ceremony in Kano, to holding a wedding dinner in Abuja.

Here are photos from the wedding dinner of the couple which held on Saturday, March 17, at the International Conference Centre in Abuja, as they await the Lagos phase of their wedding;

Earlier reports of the wedding of Fatima Dangote and Jamil Abubakar, claimed it promises to be the mother of all weddings.

The report read in part;

The prospect of Fatima Dangote’s wedding to Jamil Abubakar is delicious, like the luscious little apples that grow in the orchards of Winesburg.

The forthcoming union of the daughter of Africa’s richest billionaire, Aliko Dangote and the pilot son of former Inspector General (IG) of Police, MD Abubakar, promises to be the mother of all weddings.

It is a marriage made in heaven and signed to be actualised on earth, according to friends and family of the couple. Besides the apparent love and unwavering loyalty of the duo to each other, friends and family enthuse that there couldn’t be a greater match of equals and beloveds; from the moment Fatima’s courtship began by her beau, Jamil, families and friends of the duo embarked on fervent prayers, hoping that their attraction and love withstand the test of time.

The details are both in the telling and the seeing in respect of Fatima and Jamil’s budding love; the magnetism binds them resonates very loudly and exhilaratingly, arousing feelings of envy and desire among friends and family, wishing that they are blessed with something similar.

We also reported before now, that Jamil Abubakar, an IRS Airline staff who survived an air crash once, spoke about his life as a pilot in an interview with YES INTERNATIONAL – MAGAZINE on the 22nd of NOVEMBER 2014.

Ex-Chelsea star, Gallas backs Hazard, Courtois to dump club for Real Madrid

Former Chelsea defender, William Gallas has reacted to reports linking the Blues forward, Eden Hazard and goalkeeper, Thibaut Courtois to Real Madrid.

Hazard and Courtois will likely move to the La Liga Champions in the summer, and the ex-France international believes that the Blues may simply have to accept that the two regular starters want to try their luck elsewhere.

Williams, who said Chelsea can get a replacement for Hazard and Courtois, stated that the Premier League Champions need to accept the fact that players will one day leave the club.

“To be honest, you have got so many great players in the world, so if Hazard and Courtois have to leave, you can find a good goalkeeper to replace Courtois,” Gallas told Goal.

“You have good wingers who can replace Eden Hazard. That’s the job of the scouts to find the right players.

“Sometimes you have to accept that your best players have to leave or want to leave. Maybe because they want to play in a different league. Maybe because they have already won the FA Cup, Premier League and Carabao Cup.

“I don’t think they have won the Champions League with Chelsea. So maybe that’s why they want to leave and go to another club. You have to ask the question which team they supported when they were kids.

“So many kids will say: ‘I used to support Real Madrid’ or ‘I used to support Barcelona’.

“You have to accept it. You don’t have to be upset because he has played for Chelsea for many years. All the time, he was playing with that blue shirt and giving everything for that club.”

Father of the deceased, Mr. Festus Ojeriakhi, while narrating the incident said:

“I am just confused. I was actually in the house easting at about 8pm and I started asking about my son who was not there. I was told he went to Uromi with his friends on a motorcycle. “It was around 9pm that the mother of my son´s friend started shouting, crying that herdsmen have killed her son. 5-Month Old Baby Who Was Born Premature, Learns How To Swim. Photos

A premature baby who weighed less than 3lb when she was born 10 weeks early is now mastering the art of free diving. Mara Wasik isn’t quite five months old yet but she has already started swimming on her own under water.

Her mum Nikki said: “She is just a little mermaid. She has come through so much, against all the odds.”Mara – whose name is Gaelic for the sea – is already an old hand at swimming, reports the Daily Record .

And last week, her dad Shane, who swims with sharks for a living, gave her a taste of free diving. Shane, 37, said Mara is a natural water baby.

He added: “We have been swimming with Mara a few times but this was the first time I have tried to do something underwater.

“She is doing really well now after her rough start in the world. “She’ll soon be five months old and she’s taking to the water well. She’s not quite ready for the Atlantic yet but a 30 degree pool is fine.”

Mara was born 10 weeks early so because she was too small to feed, her birth weight of 3lb 6oz dropped to just 2lb 13oz.

She spent six weeks in a special baby care unit because she was so small.

Senator Udoma recently declared that Nigeria was out of recession.

He said economic performance of the country in the last quarter showed that the Gross Domestic Product, GDP, grew by 1.92 percent.

Udoma pointed out that the growth was higher than that of the previous quarter, when the economy grew by 1.40 per cent and 0.72 per cent in the second quarter, which according to him was a confirmation that Nigeria had fully exited recession.

EFCC director drags Magu to court, narrates ordeal

A director in the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ayo Olowonihi, has accused the commission’s acting chairman, Ibrahim Magu of injustice.

The complainant, in the suit marked: NICN/ABJ/347/2017, wants the court to declare his demotion as well as the processes that led to it as illegal and null and void.

Led in evidence by his lawyer, Prof. J.O Amupitan (SAN), he told Justice Sanusi Kadu of the National Industrial Court in Abuja that he was appointed as Head of Training on grade level 16 Step 1 in 2005 and later Commandant of the EFCC Academy in March 28, 2012.

Olowonihi disclosed further that after he sat and passed the commission’s promotion examinations conducted by the Public Service Institute, he was promoted to the rank of Detective Commander on August 29, 2013.

He claimed that Magu, on November 19, 2015, summoned him into his office, accusing him of being behind some online publications on the activities of the commission and against the person of the chairman (Magu).

He said on Magu’s directive, he was interrogated, his official computer taken away, while his two phones were seized, adding that his office, after being thoroughly searched by a team of detectives and policemen, was sealed up.

The complainant said further that while interrogation was still on, Magu demoted him as Commandant and redeployed him from the EFCC Academy.

He said while the letter was purported to have been issued by the management of the commission, he was not aware of any management meeting where such decision was taken being a management staff.

Olowonihi disclosed that he received a query on December 22, 2015, accusing him of breaching certain section of the commission Staff Regulation Handbook and replied on December 29, 2015, denying all the allegations, but was surprised to receive that same day, a letter of indefinite suspension from work without pay with immediate effect.

He stated that since his suspension over two years now, he was never invited to appear before any panel nor were there any communication until November 16, 2017, when he was served with a letter of reinstatement dated November 15, 2017, demoting him and forfeiting his salaries and emoluments.

In the reinstatement letter, the complainant was accused of breach of confidence by the Senior Staff Promotions and Disciplinary Committee.

He, however, claimed that he was never invited by the committee to defend himself of the said allegations or any other misconduct.

Olowonihi insisted that the commission Staff Regulation Handbook 2007 on which he was queried, demoted and asked to forfeit his salaries and entitlements and purported reinstatement, has not been approved by the commission or its board.

While claiming that it is only the commission that has disciplinary powers over a management staff, he said the federal government was yet to constitute the commission/board since 2015.

Olowonihi said based on the above, he rejected the conditions of his reinstatement in a letter dated November 22, 2017.

However, counsel to the defendant, Ibrahim Audu, during cross-examination, asked the complainant to confirm to the court if he was still a director in the commission and commandant of the Academy.

Responding, Olowonihi answered in the affirmative, claiming that he has already written to the commission rejecting his demotion as he was never found guilty of any offence.

Responding also to question on the validity of the commission’s regulation handbook on which disciplinary action was taken against him, he insisted that the regulation was not valid because it has not been approved by the commission, adding that some staff of the commission who have been punished have been challenging the validity.

Olowonihi said he played a major role in the drafting of the regulation, adding that the work of the drafting committee ended at the doorstep of the director of organisation who was to transmit it to the board for approval. He however said he cannot tell if that was done.

He also said by the mandate of the Academy, promotion examinations and other examinations are to be conducted by it, but the examinations were outsourced to the Public Service Institute and JAMB.

Olowonihi claimed that the promotion examination he wrote was conducted in the Academy but not by the Academy.

After cross-examining the complainant, Audu asked for an adjournment to enable the defendant call its witnesses.

Justice Kadu, adjourned till April 30, 2018, for continuation of trial.

N13.5 million pay: Saraki, Dogara’s salaries will blow up the country – Sagay

The Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption, Prof. Itse Sagay, SAN, has declared that he will make public the monthly earnings of the leadership of the National Assembly soon.

He said the N13

million allowances being received by senators is only a tip of the iceberg as Nigerians will be shocked when he releases details of the allowances of the principal officers.

Sagay said this while fielding questions from Punch on the revelations by the lawmaker representing Kaduna-Central Senatorial District, Shehu Sani.

Sani had disclosed that senators receive N700,000 monthly and a separate N13.5m as running costs.

The senior lawyer said, “There are many things the press doesn’t know yet. If you come to know the allowances that the leadership of the two houses are getting.

“My God! It will blow up the country. What is the Senate President getting? It is not the ordinary N13m.

“What does he get as Senate President? What is the leader of the House getting, what is the deputy leader of the House getting?

“What is the Deputy Senate President getting? What are the minority leaders getting in both houses? Go and find out. It is an explosive stuff, I tell you.

“Eventually, I will come out with the figures. I am working on them now. When I am ready, I will come out with them.”

He called out the pokesman for the Senate, Senator Abdullahi Sabi, for saying that the N13.5m allowances were already in the public domain.

Sagay pointed out that it was hypocritical of the lawmakers to have berated him last year when he released details of their allowances.

He added that Sani’s revelation was at variance with the details released by Saraki last year.

He added, “What they released then was their salaries which the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission approved for them. What they are hiding now are the allowances they voted for themselves.

“The salary details released was just about N700,000 but what they voted for themselves is about 20 times that amount. That is the whole point and they were hiding it.

“I came out with the figures last year and they wanted to cut off my neck and now it has come out in the open and Sabi Abdullahi is saying it is nothing new but you were denying it in the past. So, they have a guilty conscience because they know what they are doing is shameful.”

“So, is that not crisis? And can you count the number of people that have been beheaded in Rivers state in recent times?

“People will be killed and heads will be cut off and the assailants will go away with the heads. So, can anybody say that there is no security issue in that kind of place?

“It’s left to the governor. He’s the chief security officer. If he says there’s no security crisis in his state, good luck to him,” Adesina said.
