Kaduna Govt Threatens To Seize Undeveloped Land

The Kaduna State Development Property Company has warned landowners who leave their land undeveloped in the state that they risk losing such land.

The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Mahmud Gazara, said the directive became imperative because the company had no option than to key into the policy direction of Mallam Nasir el-Rufai’s administration in the state.

The KSDPC boss, who spoke to journalists on Sunday, said the government’s directive that landowners should develop their properties or risk revocation was in tandem with the mandate and plans of the company.

He recalled that the state government, under El-Rufai, recently gave owners of undeveloped land/properties in the state 90 days to develop them or have them revoked.

Gazara explained that undeveloped land or properties were capable of aiding insecurity.

He added that full development of properties in the state would reduce the housing deficit in the state, increase the revenue base and create employment opportunities.

Gazara said after he assumed office, the management discovered that lack of awareness, especially in area of revenue payment and collection, affected the revenue drive of the company.

“We notice that in some places revenue went to the local government instead of KSDPC. We are going to mobilise resources toward revenue collection drives to enhance the revenue base of the company and State by creating awareness through media jingles,” he said.

He said the management also noted with dismay that a large number of occupants of the company’s properties were reluctant to pay their rent ‘as of when due’.

The KSDPC boss added, “We also have redundant assets, after we finish our physical verification, we will look at how we can convert them to useful assets by deprecating same where they will be more useful.”
