APC Gov Sacks AIT, Channels from Govt House After THIS Happened

Today is not a good day for journalism in Ondo state as the All Progressives Congress (APC) led government of the state has sacked some media platforms from the government House without any tangible reason.

The affected media outlets include the Channels Television, the African Independent Television (AIT), Raypower and Core Television. They have been instructed to drop all the state government property in their possession, which includes the statehouse media identity cards printed for them by the state government through the office of the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu.

Gov Akeredolu

It was reliably gathered that on Friday the state’s Commissioner for Information, Yemi Olowolabi had informed the state correspondents of the affected stations that their services were no longer required at the governor’s office.

They have been instructed to drop all the state government property in their possession, which includes the state house media identity cards printed for them by the state government through the office of the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor.

It was reliably gathered that these blacklisted media stations have been stopped from accessing the facilities of the Alagbaka ‘Press Crew’ office of the Governor in Akure.

One of the affected correspondents who preferred anonymity disclosed that the quit notice was relayed to them by the Press Officer attached to the Governor’s Office, Bode Akinwumi through the Information Commissioner.

He also stated that the development might not be unconnected with the fact that the affected stations have not been doing the bidding of the commissioner by picking stories favourable to the state government.

Corroborating the claim of his colleague, another affected correspondent maintained that Olowolabi had always been unhappy with them for not reeling out news that would please the state government.
