President Yoweri Museveni on Sunday expressed displeasure at media houses and some security officials, who he accused of concentrating on the alleged attack on his motorcade in Arua on Monday. In the mist of the campaign violence in which one person was shot dead, President Museveni’s car, a V8 Land Cruiser was allegedly stoned.
The President and his team claimed the car was stoned by supporters of the eventual winner of the Arua Musicality MP winner Kassiano Wadri, who were organized by political leaders including Kaddondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi.
He is however, unhappy with the attention that the car smashing incident has gained in the media, rather than the role played by the politicians in the deadly violence.
Museveni went on to downplay the attack on him, saying he is able to defend himself against such attacks, with or without body guards.
“The fake news generators and even some of the elements of the Security forces are concentrating on the stoning of the President’s car,” he said.
“Please, that is not the most serious problem here. The President has the capacity, either alone or in company with his personal security, to defend himself, not only against stone throwers but against any attacker.”
Museveni, in the Sunday statement went on to list incidences spanning decades, in which he was able to get himself out of danger.
“I have done that for the last 48 years. I defended myself against Amin’s soldiers on the 22nd of January, 1973, in Mbale, against the Kenyan policeman Patrick Shaw in Nairobi in 1978, against Tabuley near Atiriri in 2003 etc etc.”
