Two World Cup Stadiums In Russia Have Already Started To Collapse. Photos

Two of England’s World Cup venues in Russia are already crumbling amid claims of shoddy workmanship behind the 2018 tournament glitz. In Volgograd, a stadium embankment and new access road was washed away in heavy rain.

The arena cost a mouthwatering £198 million to build yet video shows a river gushing from the area which could have cost lives if it had happened during a game.

It left a gaping hole deep enough to fit a two-storey house.

Water pipes and sewage systems were broken and the power was cut at the stadium, said reports.

Sand and mud poured onto the embankment and some cars even stuck there — as the final was being played in Moscow.

Russian blogger Ilya Varlamov, who visited all World Cup host cities, blamed ‘negligence’ during construction for the problems.

‘A few hours before the end of the championship, the stadium in Volgograd decided to sail to the River Volga,’ he said.

It was due to the ‘violation’ of safety rules during construction which was rushed with the budget being plundered, he claimed.

Main contractor for the stadium was JSC Stroytransgaz, controlled by close Putin friend, Gennady Timchenko.

A spokesman for the owners Sport Engineering admitted there was a ‘washout’ but denied serious damage to the stadium.

In another England venue, Nizhny Novgorod, a pavement built specially for World Cup fans had earlier washed away.

A roadway also collapsed.
