Clean Up Ongoing At Otedola Bridge After Fuel Tanker Explosion. Photos

Otedola bridge along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway where at least 9 people were killed and over 50 vehicles burnt after a fuel tanker caused an explosion in the area. The tanker which was loaded with PMS, had a brake failure while trying to overtake a vehicle before crashing and exploding in the process.

Unfortunately 9 bodies were confirmed dead and recovered from the scene (8 adults and 1 minor) and 4 persons sustain various degrees of injuries and taken to the hospital. A total number of 54 vehicles were completely burnt as a result of the inferno.

Emergency management workers were said to have been mobilised to the scene to rescue commuters trapped in the accident.

Emergency responders who worked all night are currently removing the tanker from the road ready for opening up to vehicles. All the carcass of cars have been moved away to another location.

National Helm learnt that some motorists, who made a U-turn and attempted to flee the scene of the incident, crashed into other vehicles.

Lives were reportedly lost in the secondary accident that resulted from the confusion caused by the fallen tanker.
