In a chat with journalists in Enugu, Charles Effiong stated that what caused the first Biafra isn’t exactly what is causing the present agitation for it but they are all rooted in marginalisation and oppression.

He went on to tell the Journalist that the Ibibios share the same feeling of marginalisation as Igbos and that when his father, General Philip Effiong, died, Igbos played a prominent part in the burial.

When asked if Akwai Ibom would vote to join Igbos in Biafra if there was a referendum, Charles Effiong stated that there are already groups in Akwai Ibom agitating for Biafra and it is on the increase. He however hastend to add that while not everyone in Akwai Ibom supports Biafra, the reason why majority would vote to join Igbos in Biafra is because of that shared feeling of marginalisation and oppression in Nigeria.
