A 46-year old woman, Mrs. Khadijat Abdulsalam has been arrested after she descended on a single lady, Miss Barakat Olanrewaju and cut off one of her fingers with her teeth over her husband. It was reported that the incident happened at 2 Metropolitan Street off Ire Akari Road in Isolo, Lagos, where they resided.

It was gathered that trouble started in the compound after the suspect woke up in the morning and picked up quarrel with other tenants who were around that morning.  One of the tenants then told her that with her character that she will soon lose her husband who detested the way she had been quarreling with their neighbours. The comment angered her more, she concluded in her mind that the neighbours were planning to snatch her husband from her and linked the plot to the victim who was yet married.

She reportedly attacked the victim, grabbed her finger, gave her a bite and still held her damaged finger sucking her blood before other neighbours rushed and rescued the victim. She was then forced to vomit the finger from her mouth and both the victim and the finger bitten off were taken to Isolo General Hospital for treatment.

It was gathered that the victim was treated but the doctors at the hospital said that the finger was dead and could not be stitched back on the victim’s remaining finger.

The matter was reported to the police at Ire Akari police station; the suspect was arrested and detained. The dead finger was taken to the police station as exhibit. The suspect was charged before the Isolo Magistrates court for the alleged offence and the finger was also brought to court as exhibit.

She pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Mr. Oje Uagbale did not oppose her bail but informed the court that they had nowhere to keep the exhibit and asked the court to give order where the exhibit should be kept.
