Suspects Remanded In Prison Over Clash Between Aiye Cultists And OPC. Photo

A Magistrate Court in Ijebu-Igbo, in the Ijebu-north Local Government Council Area of Ogun State, South-west Nigeria, has ordered that the thirty-four accused persons arraigned in connection with the violent clash in ijebu Igbo, which claimed the lives of a police inspector and three others, be remanded in prison custody.

The accused persons were, today, Wednesday, April 18, 2018, arraigned before Magistrate E. O Idowu of Court 2, Ijebu-Igbo, on a ten-count charge bothering on felony to wit murder, obstructing policemen while on duty, disturbing the peace of the public conspiracy, membership of unlawful society, among others.

Their pleas were, however, not taken, even as the matter was adjourned to June 6, 2018.

It would be recalled that members of the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) and Aye Confraternity, had, last week, thrown caution to the wind by their restiveness during which a police inspector and three others were shot dead

The malicious killing of the cop was carried out during a peace-keeping operation embarked upon by the police to douse tension in the troubled town.

Trouble started after a town hall meeting organized by the Senator representing Ijebu-Igbo/Ago-Iwoye Senatorial area, following a disagreement between the two groups over sharing of money. And, in order to maintain peace, the state Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Iliyasu, detailed a team of policemen, led by ACP Funso Ajao, Area Commander, Ijeb-ode, to quell it.

Crimepuzzle’s investigation revealed that, it was in the process of carrying out the CP’s directive that the accused persons once again went on rampage and shot the deceased persons.

The accused persons are Dayo Ogunnaike, 31; Ademola Ogungbesan, 20, Gbenga Odutayo, 30, Shobanjo Damilola,, 20, Taofeek Ashiru, 30, Ganiyu Samson, 28,Abayomi Sarafa, 35, Fatai Àdaramaja, 32, Mufutau Ganiyu, 45, Kehinde Agba, 39, Ogunshina Niyi, 42 Otun Saheed, 35, Rotimi Emmanuel, 31, Adekola Ogunfodunmi, 40, Dotun Durosinmi, 41, Mustapha Fatai, 37, Omotayo Folusho, 20, Niyi Adebowale, 34 and Salisu Sulaiman, 28

Other were Kolawole Ajomale, 22, Wasiu Hassan, 33, Banjo Tele, 42, Adegoke Adedeji, 39, Ahmed Morufu, 40, Ayeni Lateef, 30, Hassan Fatai, 27, Samson Peter, 25, Jelili Fatai, 38, Adebayo Tosin, 37, Paul Samuel, 20, Popoola Sunday, 20, Sikiru Rabiu, 52, Muse Kazeem, 42 Ahmed Balogun, 30
