Press Release

ABIA STATE ONLINE MEDIA PRACTITIONERS CONDEMNS ARMY TORTURE, KILLING OF CIVILIANS,  CALLS FOR PEACE

1. Online News feeds and recent activities in Abia State has clearly shown a breach of peace in Aba, Umuahia and environ.

As a responsible organization, we want to join well-meaning Nigerians to call for restoration of peace in Abia State regarding the face-off between IPOB members and the Military.

2. It is necessary we emphasize that peace is a very important ingredient for development and lack of peace breeds a lot of negativity. Based on that we are advising  Abians to join hands with security agencies and the Abia state government to see that peace is restored in Abia state quickly.

3. This organization is equally condemning, in the strongest possible terms, the trending video where some IPOB members were reportedly being tortured inhumanely and killed by Nigerian Soldiers. We will advise that the Nigerian Army conducts its activities according to internationally recognized rules of engagement with the civil populace.

4. We also use this medium to advise our members to be more responsible in the type of information they send to the public in order not to aggravate the already bad situation. Members are requested to double check every information before publishing online to avoid fueling the crisis.

5. It is also important to advise residents of Abia State to desist from peddling rumours capable of causing a break down of law and order in our dear state. This state belongs to  all of us and we owe it as a duty to ensure that peace and security is insured and normalcy restored.

Thank you

Signed
