BIAFRA: Nnamdi Kanu Insists On Referendum as He Addresses Crowd In Rivers State

Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, yesterday visited Rivers State, insisting on referendum as the only

condition for elections to take place in Igbo land.

Kanu maintained that no election would take place in the Southeast, especially the forthcoming governorship election in Anambra State.

Addressing pro-Biafra supporters, who gave him a rousing welcome in Oyigbo Council, Kanu said the boycott of Anambra election would mark the first experiment in IPOB’s resolve to stand by its words that they were no longer interested in one Nigeria.

Ahead of Kanu’s arrival, his supporters were seen marching from different parts of the state to Oyigbo as early as 7.30 a.m., but he arrived the city unannounced and quietly.

Kanu said he wants Biafra to be actualised “today,” but informed the crowd that it would be achieved through a process, the first step of which is the boycott of the Anambra election and other elections in the Southeast.

“So, election will not hold in Anambra State and other states in Biafra. That is what the people have agreed on and there is no going back,” he insisted, maintaining his position to sustain the Biafra struggle, saying the Southeast was no longer part of the country.

Speaking further, Kanu reminded his supporters that the struggle for the actualisation of Biafra nation was to save the destiny of future generation, as Biafra people had since been marginalised by the Nigerian government and there was need to redeem the Igbo from such injustice and inequality.

Meanwhile, the Rivers State Police Public Relation Officer, Nnamdi Omoni, while confirming the visit, said the Command got intelligence report ahead and put adequate security in place to forestall violence.
