HURRAY!!! Senate President, Bukola Saraki, Humbles Tinubu, Beats 108 Senators, Emerges The Best Lawmaker In The 8th NASS

Senate President, Bukola Saraki, has emerged as the best distinguished Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, among 108 Senators elected into the Upper Legislative Chamber in the 8th National Assembly.

This must have come as a shock to the National Leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Bola Tinubu, who had opposed the emergence of Saraki as the Senate President.

Saraki emerged the best Senator in an online poll organised by an online medium, to rank the performance of the 109 Senators in the Hallow Chamber.

The record breaking award came barely two weeks when he really proved that he is a man of his words, by delivering on his promise to make budget details of the National Assembly, public.

The runner ups are: Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe representing Abia South Senatorial District, followed by Senator Shehu Senator of Kaduna Central.

This makes it the first time Nigerians will have access to how monies are disbursed in the Legislature, since the beginning of the Fourth Republic, in 1999.

The latest of Saraki’s feat, was the recent passing of the Petroleum Industry Governance Bill, thereby breaking the 17-year old jinx.

Recall, that the bill had been at the doorstep of the Legislature, since 2000.

The bill passed by the Senate, is expected to produce reforms in the petroleum sector, one of which is the scrapping of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, the nation’s oil company, which has been riddled with scandals over the decades.

This achievement by the Senate under Saraki’s leadership, is worthy of recognition, as the eighth Assembly has done what previous Assemblies left unattended to for seventeen years.
