Buhari charges Immigration

President Muhammadu Buhari has charged officers and men of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS)

 

to shun corruption and other vices that would affect effective discharge of their duties.

The president, who made the call in Lafia, Nasarawa State, during the 2016 comptroller -General Annual Conference and Stakeholders Interactive Forum yesterday, also urged them to always discharge their responsibilities diligently.

Buhari, who was represented by the Minister of Interior, Abdulrahman Danbazau further charged the officers to work as a team to ensure effective service delivery that could be emulated by future generation of Nigerians.

While expressing Federal Government’s readiness to support them for effective service delivery, he  also urged them to link with other security agencies in the country to enable them succeed in their border security and other immigration services as spelt out in the Immigration Act.

“Inter agencies cooperation must be based on mutual trust and respect, there should be a system in a communication architecture linking security agencies with a collaborative technology along the trusted information network.”

Earlier, Governor Umaru Al-Makura, who was represented by his deputy, Silas Agara also called for a greater synergy between the Nigerian Immigration Service and Embassy of other countries with a view to creating more scrutiny in the process of issuance of visa to both citizens and other nationals applying to enter Nigeria.

Governor Al-makura further appealed to the Ministry of Interior to make more collaborative policies that would bring the Nigerian Immigration Service and other relevant agencies to fashion out ways of covering free entry and exit into Nigeria.

He also called on the National  ‎Assembly to review immigration policies on the issuance of passports to eligible citizens of Nigeria, saying this will put in place strategy to ascertain genuine immigration and internationally displaced persons in the  various borders.

“this will go a long way in fishing out illegality immigrants that ordered criminals who hide under the canopy of refugees to perpetrate crimes  “ Al-Makura added.
