Biafra Youth League blows hot over Buhari’s fresh order against agitators

Biafra Nations Youth League, BNYL, has reacted to the latest order by President Muhammadu Buhari that security agencies should apprehend persons or groups seeking Nigeria’s split.

Those who fall into the category include the BNYL, MASSOB, IPOB among other groups seeking secession.

The President gave the directive in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, during the 22nd and 23rd combined convocation of the University of Uyo (UNIUYO).

Represented by the Minister of State for Education, Prof. Anthony Anwuka, Buhari warned that “the Federal Government will never condone and tolerate incendiary remarks from any person or group of persons, which are meant to harass, intimidate, cause fear and spread hate, no matter how highly placed such a person is.”

“Law enforcement agencies should fish out people who put out inciting statements, instigate civil disobedience, broadcast hate speeches or stir up strife, riot and rebellion and bring them to book”, he stressed.

In a statement on Sunday by its leader, Princewill Obuka, BNYL said the group was one of the targets of the president’s order.

It recalled that it had announced plan to commence grassroots referendum programs tomorrow November 6 in memory of General Philip Effiong, Late Biafran Leader.

Obuka said the activities of BNYL have been peaceful, while urging the government to withdraw its threats he insisted would not deter the group.

“We have been open in all that we do. Biafra struggle is legally backed up, it is not unlawful and we have nothing to hide.

“They should know the implications of forcing us into going underground, for when we go underground, it could worsen the situation”.

However, BNYL condemned yesterday’s multiple bomb explosion in Enugu during the local government chairmanship election.

“We don’t expect bomb threat in a mere local government election, we don’t want that type of political violence, it could scare investors away.

“It will scare diplomats who has interest in our struggle from coming to assist us, we are warning unscrupulous politicians to desist from such political violence”.
